PASSPORT TO EXPORT

Passport to Export is a practical programme providing training, planning advice and ongoing support to businesses wanting to develop overseas trade.

This simple programme, which can be tailored to the specific needs of your company, has useful tools to help grow your business.

Who is it for?
Passport to Export is open to UK-based companies offering products and/or services of UK origin or design. In summary, you must
♦ employ no more than 250 employees;
♦ have an annual turnover of less than €50m;
♦ be a new exporter who’s exports do not exceed 25 percent of turnover or your company must meet the UKTI definition of ‘R&D intensive’; and
♦ be not more than 25 percent owned by one or more companies falling outside this definition.

Research by the University of Nottingham suggests that exporters show an improved all-round business performance compared to similar companies that do not operate internationally. The skills you develop to support your international trade will also benefit your companies overall performance, making it more professional, more efficient and more profitable.

How does it work?
Our advisers will discuss the programme with you and guide you through a free International Business Review. This helps decide whether your company is at the right stage of development to move into the global market, and to assess your company’s eligibility for the programme.
Ready to go international?

If you are ready for Passport to Export, for a one-off fee of £500 inclusive of VAT we will provide:
♦ Free export advice from your personal International Trade Adviser (ITA). They will help you to devise and deliver an individual action plan to meet the needs of your business.
♦ Quality professional courses including an essential 2-day residential workshop, plus access to other developmental courses agreed with your ITA. All the training is subsidised and customised to meet the needs of your action plan.
♦ Matched funding which you can use for relevant trade-related initiatives, such as market research which allows you to put your new skills to practical use by visiting your agreed market.
♦ Assistance from UKTI’s Overseas Trade Teams in one of your chosen markets. The level of assistance provided depends on the complexity of your chosen market, product or service, but may include research, information, contacts or appointment arranging.
♦ Ongoing support from your ITA. We will keep in touch to make sure you stay on the right track for successful international trade. Your ITA will stay with you and help you to complete the Passport programme within 12 months. We will provide ongoing support such as training advice, access to export sales leads, and getting your trade literature translated into a foreign language.
